The Lagos State Government has attributed the growing influx of residents, investors and tourists into the state to sustained investments in security and critical infrastructure.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, made the assertion on Saturday in Lagos.

Akosile said that safety and infrastructure remained the foundation of Lagos’ development strategy, adding that no state could attract businesses or visitors without adequate security.

He noted that Sanwo-Olu administration had significantly reduced crime across Lagos through deliberate and sustained security reforms.

Recalling a period when armed robberies and violent crimes made movement difficult for residents, Akosile said such incidents had become rare under the current administration.

He disclosed that the Sanwo-Olu-led administration had invested heavily in modern surveillance technology, including high-end CCTV cameras, as part of a multi-phase security architecture.

The special adviser said that about 3,000 fibre optic cables were currently being laid across the state to strengthen real-time monitoring and data transmission.

According to Akosile, the central command-and-control centre now tracks activities across Lagos in collaboration with security agencies, particularly the police, enabling rapid response to criminal threats.

He added that the effectiveness of the security system was recently demonstrated with the successful foiling of a notorious “one-chance” robbery gang operating within the state.

Beyond security, he explained that infrastructure development in Lagos was being guided by the THEMES+ developmental agenda of the Sanwo-Olu administration.

He said: “The agenda covers transportation, health, environment, education, technology, making Lagos a 21st-century economy, entertainment, tourism, security, governance and inclusion.”

Akosile noted that improvements in transportation included expanded road networks, junction upgrades, ferry services and ongoing rail projects such as the Blue Line, Red Line and the proposed Green Line.

On environmental sustainability, he said the state government was taking deliberate steps to ensure Lagos remained habitable despite rapid urbanisation.

He added that education and technology were being prioritised to position Lagos as a 21st-century economy, while tourism initiatives had helped establish the state as a leading destination in West Africa.

Akosile further explained that the THEMES+ agenda promotes social inclusion and gender balance, “ensuring that no segment of society is left out of the state’s development process.”

He said the combined focus on security, infrastructure and inclusive governance had positioned Lagos as a regional hub for investment, commerce, entertainment and tourism.
